Posted by Compaq272 - August 21st, 2008

Yeah even though this has nothing to do with Newgrounds, I have nowhere else to turn!! Is anybody out there a turtle expert? I could really use your help. My Red Eared Slider and Cumberland Silder turtles have been making strange sounds. The sound is cat-like. One sound was like a bird!! I heard it down my hallway!!! Does anyone know if aything is wrong with them? ANSWER ME FAST!!!!!!

It MIGHT be a Respiratory infection. Its usually caused by the wrong basking/water temperature or exposure to drafts and breezes.

I think you should check that the talk is clean, and make sure that you keep the turtle warm. Try to vary the food as best you can and eventually add some extra A vitamins. I give my tortoise carrots some times, since carrots contains a lot of A vitamins.

If it dosent stop making noises in a couple of days, you should contact a vet. Usually they give the turtle an injection of A vitamins or antibiotics or something like that.

Does it stretch its neck out when it chirps? Because that could just be its basking behaviour. Dont take my word for it though, i think you should try and pop to the vets just to be safe.

Yes. A little bit. THANK YOU SO MUCH I NEEDED HELP. I didn't know what the noise meant. I keep the water about 73 degrees. They won't eat carrots. I give them goldfish flakes, mini krill, and mini shrimp. All dried. They don't make the noise often, but once they start, they don't stop for about 7 minutes. This has only happened twice, but I was very worried about it. I didn't know turtles made noise AT ALL!!!

oh forget it i know what you need help for but can you help me?

With what. Depending on what it is, i might be able to help. I'm no animal expert, but i can look it up and send you a PM with your answer.
